Of Being Small~~~

Sometimes we see the world
with prideful eyes,
as if our way is the only way,
and as if wisdom begins and ends
within the confines of our own thoughts.

We stand a little taller,
and speak a little louder,
believing the earth itself
leans in to hear what we
have to say.

But pride blinds us to reality.

It whispers that we are above the rest,
the others’ voices are small,
and their truths are less valid.
And so, without meaning to,
we close the door on understanding.

Humility opens that door again.

It teaches us to breathe,
to see our true selves,
and to admit…
“I am not always right,
I have much to learn.”
