Every month, Mathabo Phalatse checks her phone, hoping for good news. More often than not, what she finds is another rejection notice. The woman in her late 30s lives in Gauteng, supports between three and five dependants in a shared family home, and has been fighting a losing battle to keep her Social Relief of Distress grant from being declined.
