Lynn Forbes, the mother of late South African rapper AKA (Kiernan Forbes), has shared her thoughts about a comment that caused a lot of discussion online.
Lynn recently appeared on the L-Tido Podcast with host L-Tido. During the conversation, they spoke about rapper Nadia Nakai and a moment from her previous appearance on the same podcast.
While speaking about life after the passing of AKA in February 2023, Nadia opened up about healing and moving forward with her life. She explained that although she still loves the late rapper, she also wants to build a future for herself.
She said, “I know I don’t want this life to be alone and I don’t want to spend the rest of my life by myself. I don’t want to spend the rest of my life loving a ghost. I love him. I will always love him. He will always have a special place in my heart but I’m ready to move on.”
Nadia also shared more about her healing journey and how she feels about her future relationships.
“I’ve mourned, I’ve healed, I’ve been respectful,” she shared. “I eventually do want a life partner.”
She also spoke about how people sometimes view her after the rapper’s passing.
“I gained my freedom under this cloud and stigma that I’m forever frozen in time as someone’s widow when I wasn’t married to him.”
Her comments sparked mixed reactions on social media. Some people felt that calling the late rapper a “ghost” was disrespectful. Others supported Nadia, saying she has the right to move forward and find happiness again.
When Lynn Forbes was asked about the comment during her appearance on the podcast, she said she did not take offence.
Speaking about the moment, Lynn said, “Nadia and I had a god laugh. That’s all I can tell you. You know what is the difference? When you know someone. I know Nadz and we love each other. I know her as a person. When you know someone as a person you’re not going to take offence.”
She also explained that she understands why some people reacted strongly to the comment.
“I can understand why people kind of had a problem with with her calling him a ghost. For me, I know Nadia. Okay, it’s fine don’t worry about it.”
