Florida has confirmed a fifth death this year from Vibrio vulnificus, a bacterium that lives naturally in warm coastal water and can cause severe wound and bloodstream infections. State health data released Sept. 24 list deaths in Bay, Broward, Marion, Palm Beach and Pinellas counties, with the newest victim in Pinellas County described as between 50 and 54 years old, and 23 confirmed cases statewide, the Sarasota Herald-Tribune reported.
