Anele Mgudlwa to Light Up the Stage as SAFTAs19 Main Host

The South African Film & Television Awards (SAFTAs) are back to celebrate the nation’s best film and television talent. Established by industry representatives and the National Film & Video Foundation (NFVF), the awards honour, promote, and showcase creativity, quality, and excellence in South Africa’s screen industry.
This year, the 19th Annual SAFTAs (SAFTAs19) promise to be a spectacular event, and excitement is building with the announcement of the hosts. Leading the main awards ceremony is the distinguished Anele Mgudlwa, a celebrated South African television presenter, radio personality, and producer. Anele will co-host the ceremony with the energetic Sipho Alphi Mkhwanazi, a digital content creator, MC, and entrepreneur known for his viral videos. Together, they are expected to bring humour, charm, and energy to the stage.
The SAFTAs shared the exciting news on social media, saying: “The SAFTAs19 main Awards Ceremony is just 3 days away! Meet your SAFTAs19 Host, distinguished broadcaster, Anele Mgudlwa! Watch the ceremony LIVE on SABC 2 and Mzansi Magic as we celebrate the finest talents in the industry. You don’t want to miss it!”
The main awards show will be simulcast on SABC 2 and Mzansi Magic (channel 161) on 14 March. The Red Carpet show starts at 19:30, followed by the awards at 20:00. Guests and viewers can look forward to captivating performances and surprise appearances, all under the theme: “One Story. One Industry. One Future. – Celebrating South Africa’s Screen Legacy, Together.”
Anele is also spreading her magic beyond the SAFTAs stage. She recently shared on Instagram that she will take on the role of Fairy Godmother of the Explorers at The Magical Marble Family Fest. “I have a twinkly little secret to share… In a land not so far away, I’m bringing the magic out to play. I’m entering a new, wonder-filled world, as Fairy Godmother of the Explorers at The Magical Marble Family Fest. She’s sparkly, she’s warm and she’s full of fun, just like me! But with wings, and a wand! And she’ll be twinkling on 9 and 10 May at James & Ethel Gray Park, where families can enter a world of music, play, stories, sparkle, and moments made to remember. So, join me, your new-favourite Fairy Godmother at The Magical Marble Family Fest!”
