More than three decades after Dr. Gary Chapman's The Five Love Languages, the book is still widely circulated and discussed. It organizes how partners prefer to both express and receive romantic love into five categories: words of affirmation, acts of service, physical touch, gifts, and quality time. The book encourages couples to recognize these preferences and consider thoughtful practices to communicate love. Interestingly, the framework does not deeply address why a category of love would carry so much weight for someone in the first place.
