I have rescued overdosed people who subsequently told me they wished they had died. Depression, hopelessness, and the exhaustion of trying to stop—while still feeling driven to use—can leave someone wanting it all to be over. After an overdose reversal, some people report little interest or pleasure in things they once enjoyed—what psychiatrists call anhedonia.
