I’m standing by the back door in my aunt’s kitchen, watching her cook dinner for me. She cooks while sitting on a rolling desk chair: stirring a pot on the stove, turning to the right of the sink for something in the drawer, raising herself with one foot on a footstool to reach the knob at the back of the stove. She’s 91 years old and has a back problem that can’t be fixed, but she manages her life in ways I find amazing and impressive.
