National Treasury withholds funds to Joburg and 68 municipalities amid wasted billions

The National Treasury says it is temporarily withholding funding for July 2026 to 69 municipalities across South Africa, including the City of Johannesburg, citing billions incurred in unauthorised, wasteful, fruitless and irregular expenditure.
