Even weeks after the fires, volunteers and staff are clearing water bowls, distributing food, and offering care for affected animals
Mossel Bay, South Africa (10 February 2026)- The devastating fires in Mossel Bay may have subsided, but the work of caring for the animals left behind was far from over. Two weeks after the blaze, the Mossel Bay SPCA team returned to the affected areas to make sure the region’s four-legged residents were not forgotten.
Mossel Bay SPCA teams have been working non-stop in fire-swept areas. The fires left a trail of destruction, with emergency services battling on multiple fronts during a terrifying few days of uncertainty, loss, and hope. Throughout it all, animal welfare heroes have been assisting.
In a heartwarming video volunteers carried heavy supplies of water and food to ensure that the animals still struggling to survive had their basic needs met. While the rain has helped, the land remains stripped bare, leaving many animals dependent on human kindness to get through the aftermath.
“Every small act of kindness matters.”
The SPCA team shared on social media reminding the community of animals in need.
“When you open your heart to animals in need, you give them a fighting chance to survive.”
With the generosity of local supporters, the SPCA continues to provide care, proving that even in the wake of disaster, compassion can make a world of difference.
