Making Valentine’s Day Special for the Littles at Durbanville Children’s Home

While most of us will probably be celebrating Valentine’s Day with our SO’s* (or solo with ice cream), Durbanville Children’s Home needs help to spread the love across 144 little hearts.

Cape Town, South Africa (05 February 2026) – Valentine’s Day looks a little different when you’re caring for 144 children.

Instead of cards and chocolates for two, the team at Durbanville Children’s Home is getting ready to spread the love a little wider this February through their Heart for Hope campaign, inviting the community to help make the day special for the children in their care.

“Through Heart for Hope, we’re inviting our community to help us make Valentine’s Day special for our children by donating small but meaningful items that bring comfort, joy and a sense of belonging.” the home shares.

They’re collecting small, thoughtful items like sweets and chocolates, Valentine-themed socks, cosy pj’s, and basic toiletries like soap, body lotion, deodorant and Vaseline. All simple goodies that bring a little more comfort and dignity.

The Home, based in the Northern Suburbs of Cape Town, currently cares for children aged between two and 18, many of whom come from farms, informal settlements and surrounding towns surrounding Durbanville.

It’s one of the oldest children’s homes in South Africa, with a history that spans more than 140 years. The organisation steps in when kids need immediate care and protection. They give them stability, structure, and support at moments when life has been anything but steady.

The Home operates as a programme of BADISA, which provides guidance and professional oversight, ensuring the children receive care that meets evolving needs.

If you’d like to help, donations can be dropped off at the Home’s reception at 1 Church Street before 13 February, or you can reach out directly to find other ways to get involved. Even sharing the campaign helps widen the circle.
