In the first post in this series, I talked about how what parents call needs are often strategies—one specific way they're hoping a real need will get met. "I need the house under control" points to a need for ease. "I need you to unload the dishwasher" points to a need for support or partnership. When you can name the real need underneath the strategy, more solutions become available and you stop needing everyone else to change before things can get better.
