THE FUSE

The Free State will mark the 2026 Provincial World Food Day Commemoration and Planting Season Launch with a renewed focus on food security, sustainable agriculture and support for vulnerable communities. MEC for Agriculture, Rural Development and Environmental Affairs, Ms Elzabe Rockman, will lead the event in Allanridge, Nyakallong, within Matjhabeng Local Municipality in the Lejweleputswa District. The commemoration will highlight the important role agriculture plays in addressing hunger, improving livelihoods and strengthening local economies. It will also bring farmers, community members and agricultural stakeholders together to share ideas and promote practical solutions to food insecurity. Through the event, the Free State aims to reinforce the connection between agricultural development, community wellbeing and a more secure food future.
