Gugu Gumede Shocked by The Polygamist Ending

Actress Gugu Gumede has shared her honest reaction to the unexpected ending of The Polygamist, revealing that even she was left surprised by how the story wrapped up.
During an interview with Blex Media, Gugu Gumede and Sdumo Mtshali reflected on the success of the popular series and spoke about whether there could be another season. While fans continue to wonder if the story will return, Gumede said she would be happy to see it continue because she believes there is still a lot left to explore.
Towards the end of the interview, she said she would not mind if the show returned for a second season.
“I’m okay either way. If they said there was I wouldn’t mind it, there’s still so many things to be explored. I definitely think that there would be flash backs, so we would definitely still have Jonasi in the picture. I don’t think that he would be gone at all.”
She added that there are still several storylines that could be developed further.
“There’s still so many things that can still be explored. Also, the exploration of Menzi is what a lot of people really want to be in.”
Gumede also revealed that one of the biggest surprises came while she was working on the show’s ADR sessions. It was only then that she saw how the ending had been put together, leaving her completely caught off guard.
“I remember when I was doing my ADR’s and I saw the end with Menzi, I was like ‘Oh!’. I said ‘wait a minute’. That’s when I went to Google and I’m like ‘excuse me are you guys planning something’.”
The actress explained that what viewers eventually saw was different from what was originally written in the script.
“It wasn’t like that in the script. There’s so many things that happened after and we were like ‘woah’. I was shocked, I was taken aback. Either way, whether there’s a second season or there isn’t. I think the biggest thing to now look at is how beautifully the story was told.”
Although there has been no official confirmation about a second season, Gumede’s comments have given fans hope that the story of The Polygamist may not be over just yet. Her reaction also shows that the ending managed to surprise not only viewers, but one of the show’s own stars.
For now, fans can only wait to see whether the series returns, but according to Gumede, there are still many stories that could be told if the opportunity comes.
