From a broken spirit on the brink of giving up to a gallop that shows pure joy, Snowflake’s journey is the comeback story we all need today.
Cape Town, South Africa (10 February 2026) – On the side of the road, helpless, hungry and hurt, a pony on the brink of its end was found just in time by those who refused to let it succumb to its prolonged suffering.
After being alerted to the forgotten pony, Cape of Good Hope SPCA inspectors wasted no time in attending to the poor equine whose white coat was covered in bloody injuries.
He underwent months of rehabilitation under SPCA’s dedicated care, patience and compassion, treating not only his wounds but his spirit too.
“Snowflake still had a spark – and we held onto it with everything we had,” the Cape of Good Hope SPCA said.
Step by step, he healed. And today, he is far cry from the distressed and broken horse abandoned to their fate. Snowflake is a happy, healthy boy with a second chance at life and a new family!
“Snowflake has gone home to the wonderful Bester family in Piketberg, where he will finally know safety, kindness and the love he always deserved.”
His fortunate twist of fate has affirmed the tireless efforts of his rescuers, vet, farrier and carers.
“This is why we do what we do. This is what help looks like.”
A video of his touching rescue has resonated with many animal lovers online, who responded with appreciation to the SPCA and well wishes for precious Snowflake. His farrier, Adam Snyman, also commented:
“It was a privilege to be your farrier, Snowflake. I will miss you! Enjoy your new home and your freedom, special boy!”
Snowflake’s happy ending was made possible by the ongoing support for the SPCA’s Horse Care Unit. The general public can help give more horses a second chance by donating to this unit – ensuring the team can continue rescuing and rehabilitating ponies, donkeys and horses who suffer from neglect and cruelty.
