Fish Hoek Community Rallies to Give Zack a Dream Come True

The Fish Hoek community stepped into the Big Walk for Little Warriors event on Saturday in white and with big smiles to not only have fun, but also to support a 10-year-old warrior in his courageous battle against cancer.

Cape Town, South Africa (17 February 2026) – When the heartbreaking news of a young Ocean View boy’s courageous battle with cancer spread, the community wasn’t just touched; they were moved to act.

After reading a feature in the False Bay Echo about 10-year-old Zack, who is currently undergoing treatment for osteosarcoma at Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital, the Fish Hoek Lions Club reached out to the Reach For A Dream Foundation.

They requested that the proceeds from their “Big Walk For Little Warriors: Colour Edition” go toward funding a dream for Zack. And the foundation readily agreed!

The event was held over the weekend, where over 200 locals paid for their tickets and came out with white t-shirts and smiles to enjoy the afternoon at the Fish Hoek Sports Fields.

“The Fish Hoek Lions Club Big Walk for Little Warriors – Colour Edition – was a roaring success! Together we raised R11,000 for The Reach For A Dream Foundation, which will facilitate Zack’s dream,” the Lions Club said.

Soon enough, the young warrior will get a much-needed break from doctors’ appointments, hospital wards and the daunting journey of treatment and step into a magical Dream Day put together just for him.

Lions Club member Lauren Winder noted that supporting Zack was an easy decision, citing his ties to the local community and the Lions Club’s global commitment to fighting childhood cancer.

The Fish Hoek Lions Club would particularly like to thank:

  • Golden River Spur Steak Ranch for the bottles of water
  • Fish Hoek Athletics Club for volunteers, spot prizes, and the use of their venue
  • Party Rentals & Design for providing the jumping castles
  • Ward Councillor Izabel Sherry (all in blue by the end of it!)
  • Cape of Good Hope Rotary for their support
  • False Bay Volunteer Emergency Medical Service for being on site
  • Cape Medical Response for being on site
  • Hakuna Matuktuk for coming to support
  • Zone Radio for volunteering and always supporting their projects
