Actress Gugu Gumede has secured a leading role in e.tv’s highly anticipated new original drama, eGagasini: Waves of Change, which is set to premiere on Monday, 29 June, at 19:30.
The exciting new series will take over the 19:30 timeslot from House of Zwide, bringing viewers a fresh and youthful story set against the backdrop of Durban’s fast-growing music industry.
According to Actors Space, eGagasini: Waves of Change is set in Durban’s vibrant music scene and follows the lives of three ambitious friends from Umlazi — Lwandle, Njabulo and Sihle. Their fortunes change dramatically after a viral video turns their music group, Truth or Dare, into overnight sensations.
However, their newfound fame is soon threatened by a devastating tragedy. What begins as a dream come true quickly spirals into a nightmare when a tragic yacht accident leaves a young woman dead. Faced with the possibility of losing everything they have worked for, the three friends become bound by guilt and make a dangerous pact of silence in an attempt to protect their future and rising careers.
Leading the cast is veteran actor Meshack Mavuso, who takes on the role of Senzo Dube, a legendary music producer and founder of Umlilo Records. Determined to restore his struggling music empire to its former glory, Senzo sees potential in the young group and becomes a key figure in their journey.
Joining him is Gugu Gumede, who plays Phumelela Dube, Senzo’s wife and strategic business partner. Phumelela is instrumental in the decision to sign Truth or Dare, placing her at the centre of the unfolding drama and the future of the record label.
The cast also includes Nolwazi Tsebesha, who portrays Noxolo Dube, the privileged daughter of Senzo and Phumelela. Her seemingly perfect world begins to shift as she becomes increasingly entangled in the success, challenges and secrets surrounding the rising music stars.
With a compelling storyline, a talented cast and a setting rooted in Durban’s energetic music culture, eGagasini: Waves of Change promises viewers a mix of ambition, fame, loyalty and consequences. As secrets threaten to surface and lives become intertwined, audiences can expect plenty of drama when the series makes its debut on e.tv later this month.
