South African actress, filmmaker and producer Connie Ferguson is set to receive a special honour at the Africa Choice Awards this coming September, adding another significant moment to a career that has seen her become one of the most recognisable names in African entertainment.
The announcement was made on the awards’ social media page, revealing that Ferguson will be recognised under the title “Honouring the Legends.” The prestigious ceremony will take place on Saturday, 26 September 2026, at Times Square, SunBet Arena in Pretoria.
Ferguson’s career has stretched well beyond acting. She has built an impressive body of work both in front of the camera and behind it, particularly through Ferguson Films, the production company she co-founded in 2010 with her late husband, Shona Ferguson.
Through Ferguson Films, the pair became involved in several notable South African television productions, including Rockville, iGazi, The Gift, The Throne, The Imposter, The Herd, The Queen and Kings of Jo’Burg.
One of the company’s notable productions was Rockville, while The Queen became another major title associated with Ferguson Films. Connie Ferguson also starred in The Queen, taking on the role of the powerful Harriet Khoza.
But long before she became a producer, Ferguson had already established herself as a household name on screen. She is best known for her iconic role as Karabo Moroka on Generations, a character that became closely associated with her career and helped cement her status as one of South Africa’s most recognisable television actresses.
Her acting credits also include Soul City, The Wild, Rockville, The Queen, and Kings of Jo’Burg.
Her journey from actress to producer and filmmaker has allowed her to take on different roles within the entertainment industry. Through Ferguson Films, she and Shona Ferguson helped create stories that connected with audiences in South Africa and beyond.
The Africa Choice Awards explained why Ferguson was chosen for the special recognition, describing her as a figure whose influence has become part of African popular culture.
“Some names become part of a generation. Some become part of the culture.
Connie Ferguson is one of those names.
From the screen to the stories that have shaped African television, her career has left a mark that goes far beyond entertainment. She has built a body of work, a legacy and an influence that continues to inspire.
On September 26, the Africa Choice Awards will honour Connie Ferguson as a Legend for her remarkable contribution to African entertainment and culture.
This is more than recognition. It is a celebration of a legacy that Africa knows.”
Happy to be awarded, Connie Ferguson said, “Honoured. Thank you.”
The Africa Choice Awards are an annual continental awards show that celebrates African creative, entertainment, and TV talent. South Africa is hosting the event for the first time, making this year’s ceremony an especially significant occasion for the local entertainment industry.
The theme for this year’s awards is “Let the Culture Reign.” And with Ferguson among those being celebrated, the theme feels particularly fitting for an actress and producer whose career has been closely connected to South African storytelling.
