The Men in Blue made history in Ahmedabad on Sunday with a mammoth 96-run victory over New Zealand to win the ICC T20 World Cup.

The hosts’ top-order batsmen put on a spectacular show, with Sanju Samson (89 off 46 balls), Abhishek Sharma (52 off 21 balls) and Ishan Kishan (54 off 25 balls) leading the charge to a score of 255/5.

New Zealand struggled to cope with India’s attacking batting; and their own innings was a different story.

They were bowled out for 159, with Jasprit Bumrah (4/15) and Axar Patel (3/27) leading the Indian bowling charge. Bumrah’s spell was breathtaking once again, delivering vital breakthroughs before being crowned man of the match.

The victory marked a night of ecstasy for Indian fans who filled up the Narendra Modi Stadium to capacity. Their side became the first host nation to win the tournament and the first team to successfully defend their T20 World Cup crown.
