Blxckie Fires Back At DJ Zan-D Amid Feud With DJ Speedsta. South Africa’s hip hop scene is alive with chatter again as veteran DJ and media personality DJ Zan-D encouraged artists to handle public criticism with maturity.

“SA hip hop artists need to understand that criticism isn’t hate,” Zan-D wrote on X. “Being a public figure means opinions will always exist. That’s not a bad thing. It’s how the culture evolves.”

Taking to X, Blxckie fired back with a pointed challenge, brushing off the lecture from veteran DJ Zan-D. To him, the message sounded like an expectation that he should simply accept DJ Speedsta’s criticism, even though he does not believe he did anything to warrant it.

“lol go look at speedyboys (DJ Speedsta) tweets before I said anything and show me this ‘criticism’ you speak of,” Blxckie wrote. His response highlighted frustrations with comments that felt more like personal jabs than constructive feedback.

The friction between Blxckie and Speedsta traces back to repeated requests from Speedsta last year for a freestyle appearance on his platform. The Durban rapper, focused on completing his forthcoming album rollout, reportedly told the DJ he would participate when the timing aligned with his campaign.

From Blxckie’s perspective, it was a professional boundary. From Speedsta’s side, it appeared to signal something else.

Matters escalated when Speedsta claimed during a podcast episode that “Respectfully, Blxckie didn’t do shxt in 2025,” questioning his output and impact despite strong streaming numbers and consistent visibility. Blxckie’s retaliation came in the form of pointed tweets, memes, and the now-viral nickname “Speedyboy.”

At 24, Blxckie represents a new generation of artists who built their empires in the streaming era. His rise has been fueled by digital platforms, youth culture, and a sound that blends melody with sharp rap instincts. For many fans, he embodies the shift from traditional gatekeepers to artist-driven momentum.
