Sometimes it seems that all the great characters in movies are narcissists. It makes you wonder: What is their cinematic intrigue? For one, they are their own villain. It is fascinating to watch someone mistake grandiosity for confidence and then witness the fallout from a safe distance (our sofas). Second, narcissistic characters in films are usually charming and can pull us in even when they are doing bad things. Finally, there is something innate in all of us that enjoys studying egocentricity, self-importance, and entitlement without having to interact with them in real life, so that when we do encounter someone with narcissistic traits, we may be better equipped to see them for what they are.
