This week, jury findings in California and New Mexico place a spotlight on social media that all users could benefit from paying attention to. Jurors in New Mexico concluded that Meta (which owns Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp) had engaged in what NPR states as “‘unconscionable’ trade practices that unfairly took advantage of the vulnerabilities of and inexperience of children,” finding thousands of violations of the state’s Unfair Practices Act.
