I can’t get enough of Chick-fil-A’s Chick-n-Minis — you know, the tiny chicken nugget sandwiches the fast-food joint serves for breakfast? I like them so much, I had them on the morning of my wedding. I’ve only just recently discovered a way to make my own version at home, and it truly couldn’t be simpler thanks to frozen chicken nuggets and Mason Dixie’s Buttermilk Biscuit Minis.

Honestly? Don’t tell Chick-fil-A, but I’ll take these frozen mini biscuits over its rolls any day.

Mason Dixie makes all sorts of frozen breakfast foods, like sandwiches, burritos, Liège waffles, and these mini biscuits. I first got a box of them last summer, and they’ve been a staple in my freezer for nearly six months.

The mini biscuits come in a box of six (two in each pack) for $7 at Whole Foods. They’re super easy to make, too. You can pop them in the oven or the microwave. I usually opt for the microwave because it’s really fast, and they still turn out delicious. Typically, I only make one or two at a time, so I just have to heat it for about 30 seconds (it will take 60 to 75 seconds in the microwave if you make four to six at once, though).

The biscuits come out flaky, fluffy, and so tender. I break them apart easily with my fingers, and most of the time I just slather on apple butter. But when the urge for Chick-n-Minis strikes, I know these have my back.

My favorite way to eat these mini biscuits is by riffing on the Chick-n-Minis. Now, I know Chick-fil-A uses teeny rolls, not biscuits, but I think biscuits are better here.

To make my version, I heat up a couple frozen chicken nuggets (these QVC ones are very similar to Chick-fil-A’s!) along with two mini biscuits. The whole process doesn’t even take two minutes. Then I break open the biscuits, stack one nugget onto each biscuit bottom, and top each with its remaining biscuit half.

You could totally add a condiment on top or even half a slice of cheese, but I prefer to dip mine into sauce so I can have a selection. My faves? A sweet and tangy barbecue sauce and Trader Joe’s Dill Pickle Mustard.

Truthfully, though, you don’t even need them. The biscuits are so tender, buttery, and moist — no dry bites in sight! I don’t know how Mason Dixie does it, but they are so good that I will happily choose them over refrigerated biscuit dough — or going to the drive-through — any day.
