Double trouble for Kaizer Chiefs: Why fans should be worried

After several disappointing campaigns in recent years, Amakhosi began the season strongly and, at one stage, looked capable of mounting a genuine title challenge.
A mid-season slump however, saw them lose ground on both Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates.
Despite that setback, it was still a respectable campaign for the Glamour Boys, who ended the season 15 points behind champions Pirates.
Just as Kaizer Chiefs appeared to be making steady progress under co-coaches Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze, the club decided to part ways with the duo on Tuesday.
Ben Youssef and Kaze had taken over from Nasreddine Nabi earlier in the season and managed to stabilise the team while improving several players.
Why Kaizer Chiefs could struggle next season
With the current squad, Amakhosi looked capable of competing for domestic cup honours under Ben Youssef and Kaze. Players such as Aden McCarthy, Given Msimango, Flavio Silva and Lebohang Maboe all showed signs of improvement under the co-coaches.
Their departure, however, could create uncertainty, especially if the incoming coach prefers to bring in his own players and implement a completely different system.
That could undo much of the progress already made, while some promising players may find themselves overlooked despite establishing themselves in the team.
With more signings expected in the coming months and several senior players reportedly set to leave, Kaizer Chiefs could be heading into another rebuilding phase.
Whether this new direction brings success or further instability remains to be seen.
