South African fitness influencer and media personality Sbahle Mpisane has opened up about her unique gym style and why she chooses to wear a dress while training. Taking to Instagram, Sbahle shared a thoughtful and empowering message explaining that her choice has nothing to do with trends or attention, but everything to do with comfort, control, and peace of mind.

“I’m often asked why I wear a dress to the gym. The answer is simple: it’s a personal choice,” she wrote. According to Sbahle, wearing a dress helps her feel more comfortable and focused during her workouts. She explained that comfort plays a major role in how she trains and how she connects with her body.

“I’ve learned that comfort changes everything,” she shared. When she feels covered, she is able to train without distractions. “When I’m covered, I train peacefully without worrying about my body being on display, without feeling self-conscious, without questioning who’s watching.” This sense of ease allows her to fully focus on what truly matters during training. “I can fully engage my body and focus on strength, form, and breath,” she added.

Sbahle made it clear that her confidence does not come from showing more skin. “My strength doesn’t need to be proven by exposure. My body is a dream and this isn’t about hiding.” For her, wearing a dress is a deliberate and powerful choice. “It’s about control. It’s about intention. It’s about training in peace.”

She described this mindset as a deeper and more meaningful form of confidence. “This is a new kind of confidence. Quiet. Grounded. Unapologetic.” Her words resonated with many followers who praised her for promoting self-awareness and body respect in a space that often focuses on appearance.

Sbahle also revealed exciting plans for her gym dress. “Yes the material of this dress is thick but at the @maison_sbale workspace, l plan to redo it, introduce more colours, make the fabric lighter and more breathable for my training sessions or to wear when running my errands,” she said. She plans to reintroduce the dress in calming, natural shades. “I’m reintroducing this dress in warm, earthy tones like clay, sand, and dusty rose colours that are grounded & calming.”

According to Sbahle, the dress is designed to fit seamlessly into her lifestyle. “They’re perfect for training, errands, and daily home activities without needing to ‘dress up,’ since most of my days prioritise flow over performance.”
