A tiny tree-dwelling land snail from Tasmania is distinct enough to be placed in a genus of its own. Scientists have named the new genus Gahniella for the species Gahniella undulata, whose closest known relatives, according to their genetic analysis, are punctid snails from Norfolk Island, a remote Australian territory in the South Pacific.
