Daily Commute Turns into a Moment of Kindness for a Mother Who Refuses To Give Up

Every morning on the way to daycare, Marion Peake saw more than just a woman with a sign asking for work. She saw a mother who refused to give up and made sure she knew she wasn’t invisible.
East London, South Africa (24 February 2026) – Every morning when Marion Peake takes the route to drop off her son at daycare, she notices a woman sitting with a sign appealing for a cleaning job. Every morning, without fail.
Moved by the woman’s unwavering dedication to showing up every day at her spot, hoping someone would give her a chance so she, too, could provide for her children, Marion felt compelled to help.
“I told my daughter this lady is so committed to not giving up to provide for her children, as the sign says. If she is there daily, it means nobody has taken a chance to pick her up and offer her a job,” Marion shared in a post.
Though Marion couldn’t offer her a permanent job, she and her daughter came up with a different way to help: surprising her with a thoughtful food parcel.
The woman’s response to the gesture was enough to pull at any heart’s strings!
“She didn’t see it coming at all, which made it so beautiful. When our daughter handed it over, the mamma immediately jumped up, bowing down, saying thank you. This was a site of such humbleness.”
Marion and her husband, Matthew, are the founders of the Helping Those In Need NPO, based in East London, who dedicate most of their days and efforts to feeding and serving vulnerable children and residents in impoverished communities. These acts of service have clearly rubbed off on their children, too, as the woman can attest.
“We are so proud of our children learning the power of blessing those in need. Many times, they come home saying, ‘Mom and dad, I saw my friends didn’t bring food for a few days, can I pack extra lunch to share?’”
“One random act of kindness can change a whole day for someone else,” Marion says.
Kindness runs deep in this family, and not only has it brightened our day, but it has helped one resilient mother put food on the table for her loved ones and know that she is seen.
