- The ANC introduced its candidates for wards 2 and 103 to the Qiniselani Manyuswa Tribal Authority, ahead of November’s local government elections.
The ANC in eThekwini believes former President Jacob Zuma will one day answer for betraying the organisation, when he faces judgment in heaven.
This emerged on Friday afternoon at kwaNyuswa, west of Durban, where ANC regional leadership met with the area’s traditional authority to introduce candidates for wards 2 and 103, ahead of the local government elections.
ANC eThekwini RTT Coordinator Thanduxolo Sabelo told the traditional leadership that Zuma had once been their president before abandoning the organisation.
“We believe that one day he will answer for what he did to the ANC when he gets to heaven, which is where we are all going as part of our lives,” Sabelo said.
He said the ANC was turning to traditional leadership because the party itself was founded by monarchs from different kingdoms across South Africa in 1912. He said the party was tired and ashamed of being labelled criminals because of the actions of certain individuals.
Ward 2 candidate Siphiwe Bhulose told traditional leaders that while people accuse the ANC of corruption, community members themselves often make it difficult to fight it.
Inkosi MaMsindazwe Ngcobo of the Qiniselani Manyuswa Tribal Authority warned political parties against dividing her clan through hateful campaigning.
“I am glad that the organisation has introduced its candidates to my traditional leadership. I also urge the incoming councillors to work together with my leadership. All we want as traditional leaders in my villages is development,” Inkosi Ngcobo said.
The visit follows a meeting last week between ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa and traditional leaders during his own campaign stop in the eThekwini region.
