Basetsana Kumalo Reveals What Excites Her Most About Top Billing’s Return

South African television icon and former beauty queen Basetsana Kumalo has shared her excitement and gratitude as the much-loved lifestyle show Top Billing prepares for its highly anticipated return in April 2026.

The new season is set to premiere on Thursday, 30 April 2026 at 19:00 on S3. Fans who miss the first broadcast will still have a chance to catch the show, as repeats will air every Sunday at 13:00 on S3, along with additional broadcasts on Tuesdays at 21:30 on SABC.

For Basetsana, the return of Top Billing is more than just another television moment, it is deeply personal. Having been part of the show for decades, she reflected on what the comeback means to her and the audience.

She said, “ Top Billing is part of the South African pop culture and for us to have it back on our screen is really really exciting. Personally having journeyed with the show for over three decades, I think for me it’s a full circle moment to see it back on the screen and for the audiences to enjoy it with us. Top Billing 2026 is here!”

The show is also stepping into the digital space with a fresh segment called TikTok Billing. This new addition will be led by voiceover artist Sinemivuyo Mpulu, who joins as the social media presenter. The segment aims to connect with younger audiences and bring a modern twist to the classic show.

Basetsana said, “TikTok Billing by Sinemivuyo really got the audience talking. It got a whole new dynamic young viewer wanting to be part of the Top Billing journey so its wonderful that we’re going to be also focusing on our digital content that Sine will be bringing to our audiences. It’s exciting times.”

Beyond the glitz and glamour, Basetsana is especially passionate about the stories that will be told in the new season. She highlighted the importance of showcasing authentic South African voices and achievements.

“I’m excited to tell stories about real people, real South Africans who are doing great things. I’m excited to tell stories about South African who are championing different paths, South Africans who are on global stages whether it’s in the art, it’s in entertainment, it’s in movies. So we’re looking to tell stories that are truly resonate to South Africans.”
