How a Morning Road Cleanup Led to a Second Chance for a Tiny Puppy

They say you never know what the day will bring when you head out to work, but for one city road cleaning crew, “business as usual” was anything but that when a tiny, abandoned pup stopped them in their tracks.

Cape Town, South Africa (09 February 2026) – During a recent clean-up of Cape Town’s roads, the City’s workers were stopped in their tracks when they noticed something moving among the papers and bottles, almost trying to bite something.

When one of the ladies went closer, she realised it wasn’t just another piece of litter to be cleared. It was a life in need. A tiny puppy, likely only a few days old.

Though rescuing vulnerable animals wasn’t exactly in the job description for the day, the team knew they couldn’t leave him behind. One female worker gently scooped him up and placed him in a box, ensuring he was safe and sound.

According to the Animal Rescue Organisation (ARO), the woman and her colleagues brought the puppy to their clinic, asking for advice and sharing that she would love to care for him herself.

“Our team provided Milk-O-Pup, explained how to bottle-feed him, and made sure she had a blanket and carrier to keep him warm and safe,” ARO said.

Weighing a meagre 400 grams, this little fighter was given the name Snoopy!

“We’ve asked her to bring him back in two weeks so we can see how he’s doing—and we can’t wait to watch Snoopy grow!”

What started as a routine cleanup shift took an adorable turn for this team, and their response, despite their tasks and duties, just goes to show that no matter how busy the workday gets, there is always, always time to be a hero!
