O foolish mind, why do you seek a purpose in life? Believe me when I say: you have none.
You never asked me if I have one. If you had, I would have told you, “I have none.”
Yet you insist on seeking. You are conditioned to do so, as though stillness were unfamiliar to you.
Since you insist, let us look more closely.
In seeing a purpose in the world, you begin to chase.
Always ahead of yourself, out there in the world, never where you are.
You think you must become this or that. You look for someone to love you, someone to complete you, someone to guide you.
After a lifelong search, you find yourself in the same place. Why?
Pause. Look.
Nothing in the world gives you peace or happiness that lasts.
So, your purpose is not in acquiring something outside yourself.

It does not lie in becoming something, for status and power do not make you happy.
In people, things, and positions, you find only pain and suffering.
Where, then, does everlasting peace lie?
It begins with a question you never ask, for you are always looking away.
Here is the question: “Who am I?”
If you must have a purpose, this is it: to seek the answer to this question — and to find it.
The purpose lies in discovering your real identity, devoid of identities; discovering your real nature, devoid of attributes.
When you discover that, there is no seeking, there is no doing, there is no becoming.
Stop seeking. Stop searching.
Stop.
In that silence, you will discover you never had a purpose.
Then you will realize you are complete by yourself.
In fact, you and I are one, and we are one with the Cosmic Whole.
If you had asked “Who are you?”, I would have said nothing — and that would have been the answer.
