Orlando Pirates defender Deano van Rooyen could reportedly be on his way out of the club before the transfer window closes.
The 29-year-old right-back has been left out of the matchday squads for the Buccaneers‘ opening Betway Premiership fixtures against Milford FC, AmaZulu and Chippa United, raising further questions over his future at the club.
According to reports from SoccerBeat on Thursday, Van Rooyen could leave Pirates in the coming weeks as the club continues to reshape its options at right-back.
The former Stellenbosch FC captain endured a difficult campaign last season, making just 10 league appearances for the Buccaneers.
His lack of involvement at the beginning of the new campaign has now intensified speculation that he could be one of the players to leave before the transfer window shuts.
Orlando Pirates have also been linked with a move for Polokwane City defender Thabang Matuludi, who has emerged as a potential target for the Soweto giants.
The potential arrival of Matuludi could further increase competition for places at right-back and raise questions over Van Rooyen’s position in the squad.
Van Rooyen is yet to feature for Orlando Pirates this season
Pirates have already made changes in the position, with Thabiso Lebitso and Bandile Shandu both departing the club. Earlier reports suggested Van Rooyen could remain at Pirates and fight for his place despite the club’s interest in Matuludi, meaning his current situation remains one to watch closely.
For now, Van Rooyen’s absence from the opening matchday squads has only added to the uncertainty surrounding his future at Orlando Pirates.
