Aiden Markram’s blistering 86* off 44 balls and Marco Jansen’s four-wicket haul propelled South Africa to a commanding seven-wicket victory over New Zealand in their ICC T20 World Cup clash in Ahmedabad.

Chasing 176, the Proteas raced to 51/0 in three overs, with Markram’s aggressive strokeplay dismantling the Kiwi attack.

He struck eight fours and four sixes, dominating the chase and sealing the win with 17 balls to spare.

Jansen’s 4-40 and Corbin Bosch’s disciplined death bowling restricted New Zealand to 175/7 in the first innings.

Jansen removed both openers and added two more wickets, while Bosch’s tight final overs stifled any late surge.

Despite contributions from Mark Chapman (48) and Daryl Mitchell (32), New Zealand faltered.

South Africa’s top order fired, with Quinton de Kock (20) and Ryan Rickelton (21) providing quick starts, while David Miller’s unbeaten 24* ensured a smooth finish.

The win secures South Africa’s place in the super eight stage, with top spot in Group D now likely. New Zealand, meanwhile, remain favourites for second spot.

In Saturday’s other results, Ireland thrashed Oman before England overcame Scotland.
