Eastern Cape Agriculture MEC Nonceba Kontsiwe has arrived in Port St John’s to hand over agricultural machinery and implements valued at over R1.5 million to the Port St John’s Irrigation Scheme. The handover marks an important step towards strengthening agricultural production, improving farming efficiency and supporting farmers working on communal land. The equipment includes a tractor, trailer, ripper, boom sprayer and disc, all of which are expected to help farmers manage their fields more effectively. The initiative comes ahead of the Agricultural Show, placing a spotlight on the role of farming in supporting rural livelihoods and local food production. For the farmers involved in the scheme, the new machinery provides additional resources to build on their existing work and improve the productivity of their land.
