Walmart Sets Opening Date for New Boksburg Store. South African retail expansion continues as Walmart confirms the official opening date and location of its newest store at Eastpoint Shopping Centre in Boksburg, Ekurhuleni. The retailer announced that the store will open to the public on Saturday, 28 February 2026, marking another step in its continued rollout across South Africa.

The Boksburg launch follows earlier store openings at Clearwater Mall and Fourways Mall, where customers responded positively to the company’s Every Day Low Price approach. The new location signals the beginning of a broader expansion drive, with 21 additional stores proposed across Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and Western Cape.

According to André Steyn, vice president of format acceleration, independently published price comparisons have shown the retailer offering a low price advantage on comparable baskets of everyday essentials. He said customer response since the first store opening has supported the company’s pricing position in the market.

Digital shopping remains part of the retailer’s convenience strategy, with an Africa focused mobile shopping application offering 60 minute express delivery services. The delivery radius has expanded from five kilometres to eight kilometres, extending access for customers purchasing groceries, fresh food, beverages and small household appliances.

The store is expected to create approximately 80 jobs and strengthen links with local suppliers, including Ultra Chem, a regional manufacturer supplying household cleaning products. To mark the opening, the retailer will donate more than 1.5 tonnes of non perishable groceries to FoodForward SA to support community food security initiatives in the surrounding area.

The Boksburg store will open at 8am with a ribbon cutting ceremony led by store manager Hector Msane, who has 22 years of retail experience. Located at Shop L17, the store will operate from 8am to 8pm Monday to Saturday, and 9am to 5pm on Sundays and public holidays.

The opening forms part of the retailer’s wider strategy to expand its physical footprint while strengthening digital shopping services for local consumers. Company representatives say the Boksburg launch builds on operational experience gained from earlier store openings and reflects ongoing investment in retail infrastructure.

Community engagement also remains central to each new store opening, with partnerships involving suppliers and charitable organisations supporting local development efforts. The Boksburg launch marks another milestone as the retailer continues expanding its presence and strengthening its retail network across the country, with further store growth planned in key regional markets in the coming years.
