The Joburg Super Kings booked their spot in the Betway SA20 playoffs after defeating the Paarl Royals by 44 runs at Boland Stadium on Monday.

Leus du Plooy’s explosive 54 off 27 balls, which included three sixes and five fours, propelled the Super Kings to a defendable total of 166/5.

Debutant Neil Timmers (39) and Matthew de Villiers (27) also contributed to the total, but it was Du Plooy’s intervention in the middle of the order that really gave the bowlers a chance to defend the target.

In response, the hurdle was too big for the Royals, with Dan Lawrence’s 45 being the highest score.

The Joburg bowlers, led by Prenelan Subrayen’s 3-14, restricted the hosts to 122 all out.

Imran Tahir (2-17) and Nandre Burger (2-29) also chipped in with crucial wickets.

The win sees the Super Kings sneak into the playoffs, knocking out the Durban Super Giants.

They will face the Paarl Royals once more in the eliminator on Thursday.

If they win, they will then progress to qualifier two on home soil against the loser of Wednesday’s qualifier one between Sunrisers Eastern Cape and the Pretoria Capitals.
