South African actress Thuso Mbedu is celebrating a major career moment as she prepares for her upcoming movie Children of Blood and Bone, which will premiere on 15 January 2027. The actress has been openly sharing her excitement with fans, giving a glimpse into just how much this project means to her.

Taking to Instagram, Mbedu expressed her joy and anticipation. She wrote, “The @childrenofbloodandbone magic isn’t just in the story, it’s in this moment. Words may fail me but this team won’t. If this is a dream, wake me up 15 January 2027.” Her words reflect both excitement and disbelief as she looks forward to the film’s release.

In another post, she continued to share her feelings, writing, “I couldn’t have scripted yesterday better even if I tried. I feel like January 2027 must come TOMORROW. where do I sign the petition?” Clearly, the wait for the premiere feels long for the actress, who is eager for audiences to experience the film.

Earlier, on 22 January 2025, Mbedu also spoke about her journey with the project and shared behind-the-scenes pictures. She wrote, ““Children of Blood and Bone” was gifted to me in 2019 and, truly, it’s one of the best gifts l’ve received. Upon reading it I fell in love with it – to the point that I made it a prayer point Before heading to Philly earlier last year I felt the most random need to go through old journals and there it was: a prayer point, a bold ask to God to be the lead of this amazing story to sit here and draft this announcement is mind-boggling. To know that I have the opportunity to work with some of the most amazing people as we tell this great story is truly humbling. I’m so excited. I’m so grateful. Thank you @tomiadeyemi for your gift to the world ca Thank you to everyone who continues to support and show up for us. We will make you proud.”

The film, directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood, is based on the bestselling novel by Tomi Adeyemi. It tells the story of a young woman named Zelie, played by Mbedu, who is on a mission to bring back magic that was taken from her people by a powerful ruler.

Set in a mythical African kingdom, the story follows Zelie and her brother Tzain, played by Tosin Cole, as they join forces with Princess Amari, played by Amandla Stenberg, and Prince Inan, played by Damson Idris. Together, they fight against the rule of King Saran in a journey filled with danger, courage, and hope.

This film also marks Mbedu’s second time working with Viola Davis, who will play Mama Agba. With a powerful story and a strong cast, Children of Blood and Bone is already shaping up to be one of the most anticipated films of 2027.
