Nqobile Khumalo Mourns the Loss of Her Father

Award-winning South African actress Nqobile Khumalo is mourning the loss of her father, sharing an emotional tribute to the man who meant so much to her.

Taking to social media, Nqobile opened up about the pain of losing her dad and promised to continue carrying his memory through her storytelling and her family.

Nqobile Khumalo wrote, “Papa five days ago you closed your big beautiful eyes and took your last breath. My heart is in pain but it will grow strong enough to continue to love you through storytelling and my three beautiful brothers.
I will always love you Papa.”

Her heartfelt words touched many, with fellow actors and friends rallying around her and her family during the difficult time.

Actor Thapelo Mokoena commented, “My condolences to you and the family NuNu.”

Actor Sthembiso SK Khoza commented, “Famo condolences to you and your family… Watching @umthethonetflix this weekend wasn’t okay knowing what you going through. You are in my prayers beautiful may Allah be with you.”

Actress Lorcia Cooper also sent her support, commenting, “Sending love and strength to you and your family Nu.”

The heartbreaking loss comes at a significant moment in Nqobile’s career, as she takes on a huge lead role in Umthetho, the South African crime drama series now streaming on Netflix.

Umthetho premiered on Netflix on August 14, 2026. Adapted from the Brazilian series Brotherhood, the eight-part gritty thriller follows an idealistic public prosecutor who is forced to become a double agent in her imprisoned older brother’s gang to protect her family.

The high-stakes drama features a powerhouse cast including Nqobile Nunu Gamedze, Sindi Dlathu, Tony Kgoroge and Lorcia Cooper-Khumalo.

To keep her youngest brother alive, an idealistic state prosecutor is forced to walk a dangerous tightrope as a double agent inside her imprisoned older brother’s ruthless gang.

In the Netflix South African crime drama series Umthetho, Nqobile “Nunu” Khumalo plays the lead role of Mbali Dlamini, a sharp, idealistic young public prosecutor. Nqobile plays Umthetho’s lead — Mbali Dlamini, the fierce attorney who discovers that the brother she was told died in prison 14 years ago is very much alive.
