We tell ourselves the hard part is seeing the future. It is not. Most leaders watch the future the way you watch a film — absorbed, moved, full of opinions about it — and walk out unchanged. The future is rarely the thing they get wrong; it is what comes after watching. Fewer people see it than claim to anyway — most are projecting the present forward and calling it change — but even those who see it clearly find that seeing, on its own, changes almost nothing.
