Just when we thought the support surrounding the Uitenhage SPCA couldn’t get any more extraordinary…it has!
Uitenhage, South Africa (01 March 2026) – This week, the Uitenhage SPCA received an extraordinary and quite frankly unbelievable donation of half a million rand from an anonymous benefactor who chose to help without expecting anything in return.
The profound act of kindness has left the entire SPCA team – and the wider community rallying behind them – bowled over in gratitude.
“We are absolutely stunned. We are incredibly humbled. And we are forever grateful for this act of compassion and faith in our cause.” the SPCA shared. “This donation has shifted our barometer in the most powerful way – but more importantly, it has shifted hope for the animals who depend on us every single day. To our anonymous angel: thank you for choosing kindness, dignity, and life. You have changed what is possible for SPCA Uitenhage.”
With this single donation, the campaign’s total has surged to R1,641,938, reaching 61% of the R2.7 million goal needed to secure a new, permanent home for the organisation.
The Uitenhage SPCA is being carried by a community that refuses to give up on its animals. There’s young Riley van Eck, the Grade 5 boy who challenged his school and the country to step up. And Nicole Blignault De Jager, who with her dog Willow raised R42,000. There are countless schools, businesses and individuals who have rallied to help them secure a new home with fundraiser events, lucky draws, fun rides, raffles and more!
The SPCA has been navigating an incredibly difficult season. Ordered to vacate the premises it has called home for more than 50 years, the team has been working tirelessly to raise the funds needed to buy a new property.
“On the advice of our legal team, SPCA Uitenhage will not be vacating our current property at this stage, until further notice. This gives us a little breathing room as processes continue. That said, our mission to secure a safe, permanent home for our animals is far from over. We are still actively fundraising to raise the funds needed for our new premises – a place of safety, dignity and hope for every animal in our care. Every donation, every share, every message of support is helping us move closer to a future where no animal is left without shelter. Thank you for standing with us, fighting with us, and believing in us. We couldn’t do this without our incredible community.” shared the SPCA in a recent update.
