A couple of weeks ago, I received a weird text on my phone.

It said: “This is Hannah. I’m your new AI assistant. If you need help from apartment building management, you can just talk to me from now on and I’ll assist you.”

I also got an email from my apartment building’s email address along the same lines.

My husband tried to call the front desk about it, but “Hannah” answered the phone to talk to him instead.

I was mad. The owner of the apartment building I live in obviously wanted to replace some of the front desk people with an AI assistant, so he could save money probably.

But I refuse to ever talk to Hannah, even if I have to go directly to the front desk, in person, to talk to them, every time.

Hannah is perfect. She’s always polite and she never will get mad at me, even if I were to text her angrily or yell at her on the phone.

But I don’t trust her because she doesn’t have feelings or life experiences. I can’t explain complicated things to her or have her understand. She can process data, but she can never actually connect with me.
