The success story of young farmer Mthuthuzeli Sontsele is receiving recognition as the Eastern Cape government continues to promote youth participation in agriculture. During a visit to Rich Valley Co-operative, MEC Nonceba Kontsiwe highlighted the achievements of the young farmer whose dedication and innovation have transformed his agricultural venture into a model of rural development. The visit formed part of the Department’s Youth Month programme, which focuses on celebrating young people who are making meaningful contributions to their communities. It also comes ahead of Youth Day on June 16, 2026, when Sontsele is expected to receive a tractor that will further strengthen his farming operations. The recognition reflects the growing importance of youth-led agricultural enterprises in driving economic growth and food security across South Africa.
