Woman who abandoned her cat and rabbit ordered to pay them damages

The Saint-Étienne Magistrates' Court in France has made a landmark ruling by recognising the concept of 'harm suffered by an animal'. A cat and a rabbit, left alone for ten days without food or water, were each awarded €400 in compensation for the 'suffering they endured'.
