(The Post News) -Residents across parts of South Africa are being urged to exercise caution after a Yellow Level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms was issued, with hazardous weather conditions expected to impact several regions.

The warning highlights the likelihood of strong damaging winds, hail, excessive lightning, and heavy downpours. These conditions could result in localised flooding and damage to property, vehicles, and livestock.

Thunderstorms expected in Gauteng

In Gauteng, Johannesburg is expected to experience cloudy conditions with isolated showers and thunderstorms. Temperatures will range between a minimum of 15°C and a maximum of 23°C.

Similar weather patterns are forecast for Mbombela, where residents can expect cloudy skies accompanied by scattered showers and thundershowers, with temperatures also ranging between 16°C and 23°C.

Polokwane will see slightly cooler conditions, with a minimum of 15°C and a maximum of 20°C, alongside cloudy skies and isolated showers.

Meanwhile, in the Western Cape, authorities have issued an extremely high fire danger warning affecting the Swartland, Bergrivier, Drakenstein, and Beaufort West municipalities. Dry and windy conditions in these areas significantly increase the risk of veld fires, prompting officials to urge residents to avoid open flames and activities that could spark fires.

Emergency services are on alert across affected regions, and the public is encouraged to stay updated with official weather alerts and take necessary precautions to ensure safety.
