Arsenal moved to the brink of their first Premier League title in 22 years with a 1-0 win over relegated Burnley on Monday, opening up a five-point lead at the summit.

Kai Havertz netted the only goal of the game in the 37th minute, rising highest to convert from Bukayo Saka’s corner.

It was Arsenal’s 18th set-piece goal of the season and proved enough on a tense night at the Emirates.

The Gunners could be crowned champions as early as Tuesday if Manchester City drop points at Bournemouth.

Even if City win there and beat Aston Villa on the final day, Arsenal will secure the title by beating Crystal Palace on Sunday.

A draw at Selhurst Park would also be enough, unless City win their final two games and finish with a higher goal difference.

The margin of Monday night’s victory, however, will give City a glimmer of hope — with both sides currently level on a goal difference of 43.

Reports on Monday suggest that Pep Guardiola is set to leave City at the end of the season after a decade in charge. The expectation will surely be that the players will give it their all to make the Spaniard’s farewell as memorable as can be.

Mikel Arteta’s side have not conceded in four league games since losing to City last month and the Champions League finalists will be hoping to maintain their positive string of results with both major titles now just wins away.
