Stellenbosch FC concluded their CAF Confederation Cup Group C campaign with a 0-0 draw against Singida Black Stars on Sunday evening. With no points at stake, the Maroons made several changes to their starting lineup, recalling Asekho Tiwani, Thapelo Mokobodi, Langelihle Phili, Kobamelo Kodisang, and Ashley Cupido. Early chances came from former Mamelodi Sundowns defender Mosa Lebusa, whose header from a corner was smothered by Singida goalkeeper Amas Obasogie. Phili also created an opportunity by intercepting a stray pass and going one-on-one with Obasogie, but he could not convert. The Maroons faced a scare just before halftime when Ugandan midfielder Khalid Aucho nodded over from close range. Shortly after, Stellenbosch was reduced to ten men when Tiwani received a second yellow card.
In the second half, Stellies coach Gavin Hunt made three substitutions, bringing on Mthetheleli Mthiyane, Chumani Butsaka, and Omega Mdaka for Lebusa, Muzomuhle Khanyi, and Kodisang. Butsaka quickly made an impact by setting up Cupido, who shot wide from close range. Singida also threatened through Joseph Gnadou, whose shot was comfortably parried by goalkeeper Stephens. Despite being a man down, Stellenbosch maintained attacking intent, with Cupido, Butsaka, and Mdaka making overlapping runs into advanced areas. Singida nearly snatched a late goal when substitute Deus Kaseke forced a strong save from Stephens. Both teams failed to capitalize on final chances, leaving the match to end goalless and bringing Stellenbosch’s CAF Confederation Cup journey to a close.
Stellenbosch confirmed their starting lineup as Stephens, Nkwali, Stanic, Lebusa, Tiwani, Palace, Mokobodi, Kodisang, Phili, Cupido, and Khanyi. Substitutes included Ah Shene, Enyinnaya, Mdaka, Mthiyane, Butsaka, Lekeoloane, Makhubu, Mabasa, and Titus. Despite the lack of goals, the Maroons showed resilience and commitment, highlighting their ability to compete in continental competitions while giving several players valuable game time. The draw marked the conclusion of their campaign, allowing the team to now focus on domestic competitions and future CAF tournaments.
