Yesterday Eastern Cape Agriculture MEC Nonceba Kontsiwe officially launched the revitalisation of irrigation schemes in the province. The programme aims to restore agricultural production and revive what she described as the old days of irrigation farming. It targets 10 thousand hectares of underutilised irrigated land across the Eastern Cape. The initiative is designed to strengthen food production, stimulate the rural economy, create jobs and fight poverty. It marks a renewed commitment by government to unlock the province’s farming potential.
