South African DJ and radio host Lamiez Holworthy has finally addressed the growing conversation about a woman many people believe looks exactly like her. The media personality took to Facebook to respond to a TikTok content creator and stylist known as Rural Zulu Girl Stylist, who has gone viral online for appearing to copy Holworthy’s style.
Many social media users have noticed that the woman closely resembles the popular DJ. From wearing similar outfits to having the same haircut and even tattoos, some people believed she may have been inspired by Holworthy. The resemblance became a major talking point online, with many South Africans commenting on the similarities.
However, the situation took a different turn when the stylist reacted strongly to people pointing out the resemblance. Instead of laughing it off, she reportedly responded harshly in the comments section. In some of her viral replies, she used profanities while responding to people who mentioned that she looks like the DJ.
This led Holworthy to finally break her silence on the matter. In a detailed Facebook post, the DJ explained that she had been aware of the situation for years but had chosen to ignore it.
She wrote, “Good evening my love. I’ve tried by all means to ignore it (for years since 2020) because I honestly thought it was innocent. It creeped me out a bit but overall, I found it flattering.
I think it’s just getting out of hand because this lady has now resorted to swearing people who innocently mention her looking like me and every response has my name along with a vulgar slur in it.
- I only got my first big TV show in 2019 but I had already cut my hair in to my signature haircut with a full tattoo sleeve which was very uncommon for black women in 2017 already.
Please also note that I had started deejaying in 2010 and had established myself as that before radio and television.
2.This lady had Moonchild Sanelly braids with no tattoos at all in 2020.
- It started with the outfits and my overall style and slowly turned in to this. She would even tag me.
This is the most important part, l honestly have no issue but to literally imitate and try to mimic me and deny it is scarier.
Overall, it’s humbling to know that my influence has reached this level.
I love it for black women- I love seeing more bold and daring women. Especially those older than me. It’s humbling and it’s reassuring that we’re taking up more space- let it however be spaces that are positive and uplifting, ones where other women can celebrate and fix each other’s crowns without trying to eradicate or compete with each other. There’s enough room for us all to shine… “
Holworthy also encouraged people to pay attention to timelines when looking at the posts shared online.
“Please kindly pay attention to the dates of these posts. 2018 vs 2020. Again, my issue isn’t the fact that’s mimicked me,my issue is in her blatantly denying it’s swearing at innocent people and alluding to the fact that I copied her instead. Where’s the hair and tattoos in 2020 ?”
She further explained that she initially chose to remain quiet but felt the situation had now gone too far.
“I was okay in keeping quiet and pretending this wasn’t happening. O sentse fela ka “I had bla bla bla before Dj wenu”. The only true statement is that she is older than me and being inspired by someone younger than you is okay. I don’t know why she’s resorted to swearing and even going as far as alluding to the fact that I Copied her?”
Social media users quickly reacted in the comments section, with many sharing their thoughts and concerns.
Selaelo Lela Maifala commented, “you might need to get a restraining order and whatever else you can against her, she’s mental and a danger. I went to her channel and saw that she enjoys walking around with people staring at her thinking she’s you, she’s not okay.”
Another user, Lebogang Gert, also weighed in. “Tjo as I go through Lamiez Holworthy comments I start realising how scary this is, reminds me of a movie called obsessed. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery but this… Yoooooh sick.”
