Two years ago, I had a friend who carried a strange superiority complex—mostly because she belonged to a certain caste. Before meeting her, I genuinely believed caste existed only in our grandparents’ stories.
But after knowing her, I realised something important: in many parts of Rajasthan, casteism is still alive, even among young people.
“Boundaries are not walls. They are doors to healthier relationships.”
As someone who grew up in Delhi, I assumed she would eventually evolve. After all, we are all products of our surroundings. She often made casteist remarks, which we usually ignored. Our friend circle is diverse—we don’t always agree, but we respect each other.
But with her, something always felt imbalanced.
