The emerging hemp industry in the Eastern Cape is gaining momentum as farmers prepare to plant hemp for CBD flower during the September 2026 planting season. Last week, officials from the Eastern Cape Rural Development Agency (ECRDA) travelled across the province to receive hemp CBD flower seeds delivered by the offtaker for distribution to participating farmers. The seed distribution marks an important step in moving farmers from training and preparation into actual production. It also highlights the growing focus on hemp as an agricultural opportunity that could contribute to rural economic development and new income opportunities. With farmers now receiving the planting material needed for the next stage of production, attention is turning towards successful establishment of the crop and building a sustainable hemp value chain in the province.
